Cheating refers to an immoral way of achieving a goal. It is generally used for the breaking of rules to gain advantage in a competitive situation.If lighting up a dark area of map to gain advantage over other players is not cheating then wall hacks and radar are not cheats either.
Another form of video game cheating is when a player does things unforeseen by the programmers to permit changes to the way enemies are encountered (or objectives met). This could be through means of a "Hack" where altered game files are substituted for the normal files, or image graphics changed to permit greater visibility of the targets, etc.
this hack does not come with the game, it is an exploit/tweak that some smart player/comp geek figured out.
There are people commenting here, that don't use this and have no fucking clue what it does or what the fuck they are talking about.
A cheat is a cheat, call it whatever the fuck you like to justify your purpose.
when I win a match I feel good that I did it with skill and no other help.
some peeps feel that dark skins are cheating, think what you will do what you want and fuck right off.

I would also like to add. I did not learn of this tweak until after I joined DOU, if I had known I may not have joined, but my main reasons for joining DOU was not due to game play, we have way more fun on TS goofing on the rest of you fucking assholes.

There are other clans who use mutators on their servers (not on other clans servers unless they are stupid) that you most likely will never know about.
In all honesty it doesn't really make much more light.

when I win a match I feel good that I did it with skill and no other help. Agree with Grubb also. I rarely win games on my own server, I think it's usually because of my bad ping or because I'm policing, or giving attention to other things, but I have the sensasion there are players (DOU and no DOU also) who have some kind of advantage, that I do not have. So when I want to get a fun time, I use to play in other servers (my favs are PST and SOP) all with different rules but I respect them. I've never used a cheat, and I do not know about commands that allow me to see in the dark.

I play pure. From about two years I use a normal female commando skin, due I was said, in other server (I do not remember what server), that I a was cheating because I was using the dark assassin skin.

I agree with Grubb - play pure. I have only won once and felt great because I earned it. If you need a flashlight they are in the maps. I play for the fun and good times we have on TS. If that opinion offends anyone - Grubb said it well above.

this tweak gives an unfair advantage to the person using it and so ESG doesnt allow it on our server. nor do most clans and nor does FN. if DOU plan on playing rumbles against other teams or re-joining FN then you may need to make sure you have standard UT ini files ready.
on that note, how come you guys dont play within the community any more? you seem to only play on your server these days?? it was great having players like Jarg, The One, Vioguez and Oban involved in the World Cup even if there was limited participation. so its shame I dont see you guys involved the community more 🙁
i dont know or have ever heard of this tweek when I had {SUF} we never used it either or heard of it
as for dark skins, I have no issue with these. Pitch black skins on the other hand are rediculous. put one of them on and only play dark maps and you may as well just create a tweak that makes you invisible. there is no skill in that.
what i will say is that using them will not help you develop your skills as a player. if you go into a rumble where you have to use standard skins, you will get destroyed because you haven't learned the skills required to survive.
but here is where the beauty of having a server with dark skins, dark maps and this noshadow tweak comes in handy. people using guest skins think they are hidden but actually they stand out more because they are a big black object on a light background. they are actually better off wearing standard skins.
and this is why (a) I strongly recommend that nobody plays with dark skins as it will help you develop as players and help reduce the effect of this noshadow tweak, and (b) i suggest you re-evaluate your position on this tweak if you ever think about re-joining our community - which I really wish to see happen. I mean, Tommy used to be a significant presence in FN but you seem to have completely withdrawn since then 🙁
your server, your rules and your decision wont change my position on whether I play here or not. But it is creating problems of alienating your players outside of your servers so it depends on what level of participation you want for your members within the wider community. are you trying to isolate yourselves or is it just that the criticism from other players (sometimes unfounded, sometimes justified) has jaded you from wanting to participate with us? 😕

it became particularly popular about 3 years ago, about a year after SUF died out. DoC, ZsZ and FN caught and banned a number of players that used it.
it essentially removes all the shadows from a map, making it look a lot like it does in UnrealEd build mode (except without all the symbols etc). this has little impact on a well lit map but has a singificant impact on dark maps with lots of shadows. as a player, you may be camping in what you think is a dark spot that provides cover, but players with this tweak can see you without problem.

I have had a lot of involvement with a number of different clans across Europe and America and have never heard of this. Would be very interested to know more details because this is completely new to me. having special "clan benefits" is normal, such as special skins, but i've never known of this to include mods and tweaks to make it light. DOU is the only clan I am aware of doing this.
