Come on, anybody can frame a picture or two. And the 1st picture isn't Hickory, you can't see the mountains from here.

Don't get me wrong, when I go into downtown Hickory I see echoes of what Hickory once was. I bet back in the day it was quite charming, somewhere I would brag about. But Most of those old building that are still left standing are empty. They are very few however. Hickory is one of our countries finest examples of something called "Suburban Sprawl." Everything is being replaced with small 3 shop plaza's and cheap pre-fab apartment complexes. It's a shame really. I really can't think of anywhere I would want to take someone and show them if they were here visiting. There is nice stuff a couple hours drive all around here, but not here. That's how I see it anyway.

There is a lot to be said for, and a certain charm about, places that seem to defy time and progress ( can you say Estonia ?). I love em.

The trouble seems to be people in these places often feel they are not being progressive because nothing seems to have changed so... instead of repairing what should be historical homes and businesses they bulldoze everthing in site to make way for cheap prefabbed crap that somehow passes for progress .... sigh, ain't it a shame. Don't know what you got till it's gone (Hmmm ... There's a song in that somewhere) .

Don't confuse historical buildings with lack of progress.

I don't my feathered friend, "seem to" were the operative words in that phrase. I just enjoy places that don't buldoze their historical buildings and landmarks for a mini mall and golden arches. I was not implying they were backward in any way. To the contrary, I think it shows better values.

Don't have any shots of my city but I can at least give you my driveway. It rises 5 or 6 feet from the bottom to the top and I cannot get up it if there is any snow on it.

And we're due for another 8 to 12 inches of this white shit on Sunday.

And here's one of my 15 year old puppy...
