The launch was MUCH brighter than I expected... and much shorter. The cloud cover was low and thick. After it hit the clouds, it was not visible. The entire experience lasted about 7 seconds π₯
Still, it was well worth the drive. While waiting for the launch, I met a Brittish WWII Pilot. I wished that I could have talked with him for a while. I imagine the stories that he could tell would be amazing.
Also, I am sorry that I did not get the opportunity to meet Charger or Shortie. My hotel was 50 miles north and the total time on the road and being up was around 20 hours... I was exhausted.
I think it would be cool if DOU and friends could schedule a party for one of the upcoming shuttle launches to get to meet the voices behind the avatars. Scheduled early enough, it may not be too expensive. Plus, with the weak dollar, our Euro buddies could get a bargain Florida vacation π
What is also very cool is the double sonic booms when shes comming back to the cape, last time it happened it shook my storm door.

Yup, as Jarg said short but well worth the effort. Gona plan a day launch now. There are only 11 left. Then the Shuttle program is over. The plan is to start the Orion program, a rocket based system like Apollo.
