My dog has been sick for the past few days. It got so bad this morning that I had to rush him to the doggy hospital.
It looks like he has Diabetes. I had feared this because of the massive amounts of water he has been drinking the past few days.
He is in such bad shape that he cannot eat and they had to put him on an IV for food.
Now I am waiting for a call from the vet. Kinda sucks waiting for a call like this. Either he will be coming home Monday or he is going to die, don't know which yet.
So everybody think some good thoughts and send some positive vibes his way!

Those little Schnauzers are tough. Mine got mauled by a German Shepard and hit by a car and bounced back every time.

Im sorry to hear about you dog. I know there like kids to many of us. I have 2 myself and there my life. so i can relate.

Tommy, I hope that Barkley gets better fast. I know what you are going through and I know what Barkley is going through as well. I hope that they can reduce his blood sugar.

Here is the news so far.
He is on 2 different IV's and also taking insulin. The next 24 hours or so are critical and will make all the difference. The vet says that he is optimistic however but will call me if he takes a turn for the worse (or better even).
If all goes well he could then come home as early as Monday. I guess that if the treatment works, it really works.
He said the dog would then have to go on a special diet and also take insulin. I seriously hope that he will get pills. I would hate to have to give him a shot every day. You know, treat him nice, but once a day inflict pain on him. He wouldn't know what was up with that.
Anyway, it's a waiting game right now. I went shopping today and when I got home I was crushed that he wasn't there to greet me (and demand a walk).
I'll keep everybody informed with news as I get it!

Holy smokes. I forgot about the insulin. My grandmother's dog had to take it too... and yes... it was shots.
One thing is CRITICAL. You have to keep him on the diet. Even with the shots, my grandma's dog did not do well because she kept feeding him people food. I am not trying to be preachy here but I know how Lucky's death affected my family and I do not want the same thing to happen to Barkley. Schnauzers are great dogs and devoted friends.
