Yes, special diet. No more prime rib or filet minon treats.

Yup, my bad. I had to look this one up. Insulin in pill form does exist, but it is not on the market. It is still being tested.

Oh well, he will be getting stuck a lot I guess. Better than death anyway. πŸ™‚

I did not hear from the vet at all today. I am taking that as good news. He assured me that he would call if Barkleys condition took a turn for the worse, so unless the vet is an asshole I am thinking that the dog is doing well. I will be going there first thing tomorrow morning regardless of the dogs state. Even if he can't come home, I do want to see him. Lol, watch them tell me I can't. Those of you who know me know what would happen then.

Anyway, I should have a lot of news tomorrow and I will post it as soon as I know anything. TBH though, if I haven't received the call already that he died, I don't think I am going to.

I hope every thing works out for the best. We lost Thunder last year to kidney failure and it still hurts. I wish the best for Barkley.

I would agree T, if you havn't got bad news it's probably good news.

I doubt the Vets an asshole, most people that answer a calling like that do it for a genuine love of animals, not money.

O.K., here is the news.

I was able to bring Barkley home today. I am very happy about that. He is laying on the bed behind me right now and I am sure he is happy to be there.

As for his treatment, he will take insulin twice a day. Also, for now he is taking anti-vomit meds and an antibiotic.

He is definitely not his old self just yet. He is very slow and not eating much of anything. The vet told me to expect this, and in time it will get better. It's tough seeing him like this though. But every once in awhile he does something and I see that spark in his eyes that is Barkley.

I have to take him back to the vet next week for another blood-test so that we can adjust the insulin level.

I'm really glad just to have him home now.

More as it develops.

It takes a bit to dial-in insulin. Barkley will perk up after a while, his body is trying to adjust to the chemical changes in his system. If he's not showing any signs of being allergic to his insulin you are ahead of the game.

Congrats on getting him home, I'm sure he's glad to be there.
