Gonna break the silence here and ask people what they believe to be the best video recorders / camcorders. I found out about a month ago that I am going to be a grandpa and would like to purchase one 4 my daughter. Not purchase a grandpa, but a video recorder. Suggestions on some good ones?
If I were you I would buy a nice digital camera. I'm using the NIKON D3200 myself and it has great quality.
If I would buy a camera now it would be the NIKON D5300. It's not cheap, but films shot with it are for a lifetime.
I have video's from my youngest kid for example, when doing his first steps. Now those are the moments you wanna caught on film and the images will last forever.
It's all digital nowadays and you can save it on the harddisc of your PC. Or burn it on a DVD if you want.

I have a Nikon Coolpix L830.
It's primarily a camera but it takes decent 1080p videos. The X34 optical zoom is a really nice feature too. The monitor screen is adjustable so you don't have too hold it in front of your face to use.
You can go to Best Buy near where you work and test one out.
It runs $250 to $300 depending if it's on sale or not plus figure around $30 or $40 for a decent card.
I also got the 3 year protection on mine for around $75. Anything goes wrong at all...even if you drop it and it's covered.
Have you got one yet Bison, or haven't you still made up your mind about it?
Went w/ the NIKON D3200. Came w/ the 18-55 lens and the 55-200.
What cards might u recommend 4 it?
I'm using the 32GB Lexar Premium Series memory card at the moment.
First I had a 8GB card which was suficient enough for just pictures. When I was finished I dowloaded them to my PC.
But when I started to use it more for making video's it became insuficient.
When I'm filming I dont want to keep track all the time on the memory card to see how much time I still have for recordings.
So if you use it to make pictures and sometimes for filming the 16GB will do.
If you think you're going to use it more for making videos I would recommand the 32GB.
I started out as someone who just took pictures, but making video's has so much more to offer.
Especialy when using software like for instance 'windows movie maker'. It can be real fun to edit your on video's. Make one part of video fade over to an other part. And you can even edit your own music to it. If you have the time to do so you will likely enoy it.
