Here are pix of my new hobby. It is a 24 gallon Aqua Pod. I am having a blast working with this baby. I will one day get a new 65 gallon to showcase some cool coral and fish, but this will be in the future cause it is sooo expensive to maintain one of these. I hope that you enjoy the pix. The tank is now almost 5 weeks old.
Nice pics Jarg...
thanks you for share it... π
Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, so thats where you grow the stuff your on....
Super-sweet Jarg! I'm somewhat of an enthusiast as well. Mostly breeding Cichlids but we are setting up far a 19g reef tank, looking for live rock this weekend.

Yeah the guys at the store suggested the fiji rock too, they get their deliveries on the first Tuesday of the month - hopefully they'll have some left. We found the 19 gallon at Wal Mart for a great price and will most likely start with a high GPH fresh water filter that I have laying around + 1 or 2 low current powerheads to break the surface and for water distribution until we add some fish. Mostly interested in growing some corals right now.
What supplements are you adding for the clam? I've heard that the high calcium nutrients can also promote red slime algae.
PS - if you want some pointers on shooting your tank let me know. I do it all the time when my cichlids are courting.
The clams are treated to a feeding of Kent Chromaplex, and I am using Purple Up to get the coralline algae growing. It also contains the same types of nutrients that the clams need. So far no red slime.
If you are wanting to grow corals, you will need good lighting. I don't know about cichlids, but marine fish and corals like to have a day/night cycle. Speaking of cycling, you should get a fish to help cycle your tank. Something low maintenance and cheap like a firefish or a royal gramma.
As for your offer of photography help, be careful. I WILL take you up on that offer π

Yes yes yes - I love that one Moon. I especially like the new custom setting for the cichlids!
Jarg - do you think a cheap damsel or two would cut it?? One of the girls that works at my fish store also happens to be a client, she said that the rock would do fine if she gave me a little media/substrate from one of her home filters to add to mine. I'm thinking of spray painting the back side (I do this to all of my tanks) and bottom of the tank and going without any substrate in the bottom. I know that the rock will produce its own detritus as it grows.

Right!
BTW - since fish eyes are super sensitive and don't have eyelids, you may want to nix the flash so as not to cause any damage. Most flash units burst at about 1300 watts. Use a tripod - if you want some pointers on metering let me know. π
LOL - I have a tank with salt water and two damsels - the wife put a hold on spending my "hobby" money until she's outta school, since I f'd up and had the water shut off one day last month. π She's a little more practical than I - & I'm just a little kid really. She gets out of school in May - then it's game on!
